To me, education has always seemed the natural solution to curiosity.  Here are some of the people whose words continue to keep me thinking, pondering, learning, laughing and contemplating the quest for an exquisite life.

On the Subject of Love:

“Mercy understands the why behind the what.” ~Joyce Meyer

“How happy is the blameless Vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d.”~Alexander Pope

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient.  It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” ~Winnie the Pooh

“There are a lot of funny notions born inside of us, Half-Pint, and one of the funniest is that we’re supposed to hide the way we feel about others. Let me tell you something, everyone needs to feel that they’re loved, needed, and cared about. Anyone who doesn’t want to know that has something wrong with them.” ~ ‘Pa’ –Little house on the prairie

“If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained, and he were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger: I should not seem a part of it.”  ~Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

Misc. to keep you pondering into the wee hours of the morning:

“Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.” – G.K. Chesterton

“In the beginning the Universe was created.  This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.” ~Douglas Adams

On the great Adventure that is life:

“Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All of life is an experiment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

In order to fly, all one must do is simply miss the ground.” ~Douglas Adams

“An Adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered.  An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.” ~G.K. Chesterton

“My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement.”
~Joe vs. the Volcano

“We’re all afraid of making the mistake that will ruin our lives.  There’s probably no such thing.  Even if we made every mistake we feared would ruin us, our lives wouldn’t be ruined.  They would be changed. ”  ~Regina Brett

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”  ~ Helen Keller

On Knowing God:

“Maybe you have to know darkness before you can appreciate the light.” ~A Ring of Endless Light

“If thou could’st empty all thyself of self, Like to a shell dishabited, Then might He find thee on the ocean shelf, And say, “This is not dead,” And fill thee with Himself instead. But thou are all replete with very though And hast such shrewd activity, That when He comes He says, “This is enow unto itself- ‘twere better let it be, It is so small and full, there is no room for me.” ~Sir Thomas Brown

“A true opium of the people is a belief in nothingness after death – the huge solace of thinking that for our betrayals, greed, cowardice, murders we are not going to be judged.”  ~Czeslaw Milosz

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson

On Learning and Exploring:

“Surround yourself with people who are better than you are. Don’t waste time defending your early efforts. Just shut up and listen to your teachers. Stay humble. Stay hungry.” ~Luke Sullivan
